New Youtube Video up: Virtual Jane Con!
Check out my new YouTube video here! All the Single Men: What If the Bennet Sisters Were the Bennet Brothers?
This past weekend, I had the distinct privilege to speak as part of the Virtual Jane Con, an annual online convention dedicated to all things Jane Austen. My co-presenter and I had fun for 45 minutes exploring a gender-swapped version of Pride & Prejudice—what if Mrs. Bennet had five sons instead of five daughters? We examined the idea from the historical reality of the time period in which the story is set, as well as how to parallel Austen’s character arcs with a major world shift. If you’re here, then you know I love historical storytelling, so this (my first convention speaking opportunity!) was a highlight of my summer to film and present for attendees.
I want to thank the con organizers for not only accepting my proposal but also helping me with video and YouTube tips. I didn’t have a YT channel before this, but now that is an avenue I may continue walking down in the near future. As for the larger prospectus of Virtual Jane Con, I hope you will check out their full lineup of free programming. This con started during COVID lockdown and was truly a bright spot for me to attend during a very dark time, and I’ve been viewing it every year since. It was an honor to finally get to make my own presentation and contribute, however minimally, to the world of Jane Austen fans who have given me so much entertainment and enlightenment over the years.
